FOR SALE

We were assigned to write a synopsis about Louisiana and their museum shop. Afterwards, we were to select an artwork that was a part of one of Louisiana's current exhibitions. We were to create a piece of jewelry inspired by the chosen artwork, incorporating the museum as a brand and targeting a specific target group.

LOUISIANA

In my synopsis, I conclude that art, design, and architecture are the spirit of the company and, therefore, a significant part of them. Louisiana is very quality-conscious and aims to have a Nordic design and expression in the things they sell in their store. Therefore, the shop is filled with carefully selected brands and designs that fall into the higher price range.

At Louisiana, I explored the museum and their shop to get closer to a target group.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Based on Louisiana and the chosen artwork, the following problem statement was formulated:

"How can a piece of jewelry be designed which is inspired by an artwork and also appeals to the Louisiana Store?

POV

She is a woman who cares about her appearance. She is quality-conscious and wants to demonstrate this in her style. She aims to show the world that she has things under control in a relaxed manner. Her desire is to wear jewelry that symbolizes her sensory impressions, including those from nature.

HMW

How can I, through the art piece "Charcoal Drawing for a Closer Grand Canyon", create a piece of jewelry that achieves a balance in contrasts, making it both simple yet detailed, and appealing to my persona?

2D SKETCHES

Some of the 50 sketches in 10 minutes. I really liked the fine lines in the structure of the gorges of Grand Canyon. I choose 10 sketches to work on further in my 3D sketches.

3D SKETCHES & KEYSHOT

3D SKETCHES

Tin foil pieces glued and shaped. Afterwards I photoshopped the forms on pictures, to get an idea on how the sizes will look in real life.

KEYSHOT

I really like the expression of the ring, and thought it was the one spoke most to my designdrivers.
I made it in two versions. One with soft and one with sharp horizontal edges.

 PROTOTYPES

I made both versions of the ring in wax. I wanted to figure out which one my target group liked the most

THOUGHTS

DESIGN

I wanted to create some depth in the ring without it becoming too overwhelming.
Keep it simple, but add details that make the piece unique. And preferably make it with a contrasting element in the ring.

PRICE

500 DKK. I don't want it to be too expensive, since it's sold in a shop with a lot of other brands.

MATERIALS

The painting I chose is black and white. It's a sketch of the really colorful painting by David Hockney. I therefore always thought it should be in silver. The coldness in the sketch matches the coldness in the silver.

FEEDBACK FROM MY TARGET GROUP

95% agreed on the soft edges

An effortless design with details that reflects the natural depths and contrasts you can experience in nature.

The ring is handmade with inspiration from the work by David Hockney: 'Charcoal drawing for a Closer Grand Canyon'.

REFLECTIONS

DESIGN

I used a lot of time in Rhino to get a depth in the design. I wanted the lines to visually jump out from each side - except the bottom.

MATERIALS

I had always intended for the ring to be made in silver because of the artwork by David Hockney is in black and white.

Furthermore, my choice of materiale was confirmed by the feedback from my target group, as there was consensus that it should be made in silver.

PROTOTYPE

I had several considerations regarding my choice of the final model based on the two prototypes. However, after the feedback I received from my target group, it was an easy decision since there was a consensus on the ring with soft edges.

PRICE

I increased the price based on the feedback I received from my target group. it was mentioned that the price of the ring was a bit too low.
